What is Armstrong Vinyl Flooring Made Of?

A versatile plastic, vinyl flooring is composed of the chemicals chlorine (which is obtained from salt), and ethylene (attained from natural gas).  Depending on what other chemicals are used, vinyl can have flexible or rigid attributes and can vary in thickness and color.

How is Armstrong Vinyl Flooring Produced?

Armstrong makes vinyl from both the rotogravure and the inlaid vinyl manufacturing processes.  A pattern that is printed onto a blank white vinyl sheet, rotogravure is the simpler of the two.

The inlaid vinyl process combines different colored vinyl granules to produce the flooring’s pattern.  A far more complicated process than the simple rotogravure printing, the vinyl granules are etched deeply into each sheet.  This produces a more intricate, yet durable, pattern.

• CushionStep™ – A new Armstrong product line, this 120 mils high flooring depends on their CushionCore™ layer for extra comfort and resiliency.  CushionStep™ is ideal for high moisture environments, and is protected by it’s superior polyurethane finish.  This product is available in many elaborate tile patterns.
• StrataMax™ – A versatile flooring known for durability and easy installation.  You may place this flooring over existing vinyl, a plywood underlayment, concrete or Oriented Strand Board (OSB).  It is easily patchable if damaged by replacing the area using acrylic tape that is double-sided.
• Natural Fusion Luxury Resilient – This is Armstrong’s top of the line product, and is 105 mils thick.
