Cleaning Kitchen Floors

Cleaning Kitchen FloorsSpilled tomato sauce. Custard paste. Grated cheese. Sprinkled spices. Cooking oil. Various condiments. No, we’re not trying to make you hungry, but don’t you think these items have spilled on your kitchen floors before?

Don’t be ashamed if these unfortunate occurrences happen in your kitchen… everybody has their own kitchen horror stories. But to reduce the damage of these spills, there are simple ways to clean your kitchen floor and to keep them looking new.

Keeping Kitchen Floors Clean

One of the most overlooked parts of the kitchen in terms of cleaning is the flooring. Of course, you clean the countertops, tabletops, stove, oven, and other appliances everyday. But rarely do you clean the floor.

Cleaning the kitchen flooring is just as important as cleaning the other parts of the kitchen because like your countertops and tabletops, harmful microorganisms can also grow there and cause food poisoning and other diseases. A clean kitchen floor also prevents accidental slippage and falling. Finally, a clean kitchen floor completes the look of a well-kept and neat house.

When cleaning your kitchen flooring, you can use the cleaners available on the market today. Just be sure that they can be used on the type of flooring that you have or else you will ruin the look of your kitchen floor. Remember that different kitchen flooring needs different products when cleaning it to ensure that you preserve its beauty.

Kitchen Flooring: Care and Cleaning

  • Ceramic Tile Flooring
  • One favorite kitchen flooring is ceramic tile flooring . Like ceramic tiles installed in the other rooms of your house, this type of flooring is easy to clean and maintain. It won’t be too time consuming as long as you regularly clean it. Don’t let spills and stains stay for too long on your ceramic tile kitchen flooring as it gets more difficult to remove with time. Provide mats or rugs at the entrances of your kitchen to decrease the dirt that can get transferred to your ceramic tile floors. Ceramic tile kitchen floors can also be dust mopped and vacuumed at least once or twice a week. Use a mild all-purpose cleaner when wet-mopping your tiled kitchen floor and make sure that you rinse it well to prevent it from becoming dull.

  • Vinyl Kitchen Flooring
  • Vinyl floors are quite inexpensive, and are a popular type of flooring for different rooms including the kitchen. Cleaning and maintenance consists of sweeping and mopping. To preserve the look of your vinyl floors, use a damp mop soaked in a mild detergent or liquid floor cleaner solution everyday or every other day to avoid the buildup of dust, grime, and germs. Vinyl floor cleaners and other items used to clean vinyl flooring are also available in kits sold by your manufacturer. These cleaners are used once or twice a year for a more thorough cleaning, dust buildup removal, and a shiny appearance.

  • Laminate Kitchen Flooring
  • Laminate kitchen flooring is a green flooring option. It is made of post-consumer recycled materials. Because laminates are essentially ‘photographs’ that are pasted onto the top layer of the laminate board, numerous colors, designs, and patterns are available to choose from. Regular maintenance and cleaning is similar to vinyl flooring and involves sweeping, dust mopping, and vacuuming. Since it has a wood component in it, damp mopping should be restricted to help prolong the life of your laminate kitchen flooring. Use a cleaner that is specifically made for your laminate kitchen floor because some regular cleaners have a tendency to dull your floors finish.
