Why doesn’t my rubber flooring look new anymore?

There are two possibilities that might have led to this. One possibility is that you used too much floor finish on your rubber flooring. You need to remember that when applying a floor finish, you need to keep it to a maximum of three coats. Anything more than that can turn your rubber flooring dull and dirty because there is a thick barrier on it.

The second possibility is that your rubber flooring must not be rinsed before the application or it rinsed with dirty water. Before you apply any finish or coating to your floor, you need to make sure that you clean it using clean water and a clean mop. You also have to be conscious about the amount of water that you are using. Too much water can flood your whole floor.

Why is my rubber flooring turning yellow?

You probably used a wax-based finish. Wax has the tendency to turn yellow over time, making your rubber flooring look dull. You should avoid using wax and stick to acrylic-based finishes instead. Acrylic has the ability to harden your floors and at the same time maintain its present color so it won’t yellow. If you have a wax finish but want to apply acrylic, remove and strip off the wax finish first before you can use acrylic.

I have white stains/marks on my rubber flooring, what caused this?

It is very probable that you used alcohol-based cleaners or finishers. What you can do is to remove the finish and then re-apply.

Is it advisable to use rubber flooring in the kitchen?

This is not a viable option since rubber does not work well with grease and oils. Unless you are careful rubber and oil don’t mix. But since you spend much of your time standing in the kitchen, rubber flooring provides great cushioning.

Can I use rubber for below grade?

Rubber should be installed on a well-cured floor which means that it should be completely dry and free from moisture. Below grade areas are moisture is hard to control.

What causes rubber floor bubbles?

It is likely that your sub floor is not even or unclean. Another possible cause for bubbling is when the rubber floor is not rolled on properly.

When should I refinish my rubber flooring?

The rule of thumb is, the higher the level of activity there is, the more frequent you should apply a new finish to your rubber flooring. Otherwise, you can get away with refinishing it once or twice a year.

What is the difference between rubber tiles and rubber rolls?

Despite the obvious fact that rubber tiles are pre-cut rubber as opposed to rubber rolls which are bigger, the main difference is in the installation part. Rubber rolls have the tendency to give you a seamless and continuous looking floor and rubber tiles will give you a more traditional and classic look.

What adhesives work best when installing rubber flooring?

The best adhesive that you can use is an acrylic-based one. But for special moisture cases, you can use a two-part polyurethane adhesive.
