Vinyl flooring is a truly durable and long-lasting material. But as with any other flooring options, Vinyl flooring should be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.
After Installation Care
After your vinyl flooring has been installed, it is important to seal all the seams and never walk on the wet seals. Keep the room temperature steady at 68F for at least two days, this will help in setting the adhesives to the vinyl flooring. Refrain from rolling or putting heavy equipment on the new vinyl flooring, the pressure will set the adhesives the wrong way and this can cause problems in the future. Before you thoroughly clean and wash your vinyl flooring, wait at least 5 days for the adhesives to set.
Regular Maintenance
Vinyl flooring can be easily cleaned by using a vacuum to remove dirt that might have accumulated in the surface. Thoroughly wash your vinyl flooring with cleansers that are recommended by the vinyl flooring manufacturer. With stubborn dirt that won’t go away after vacuuming, use a damp mop with clean water.
If your floor becomes dull after time
If there is a film of dirt above your vinyl flooring then you need to clean it. If you are using cleansers, detergents and other solutions, you have to remember that after treating the area you should always make sure that no residue is left.
Placing rugs and mats at entry ways will also help reduce dirt deposits. Never use strong detergents and cleaners on your Vinyl flooring.
Removing wax
Vinyl flooring needs to be waxed occasionally so the surface will look shiny and new, but regular waxing can also lead to the excessive accumulation of wax which can yellow vinyl flooring. You can always remove the wax buildup. You can buy a manufactured wax remover from your local hardware store.
Removing stains
As with any other flooring option, with vinyl flooring you need to remove stains and spills as soon as possible to prevent seepage to the backing. If you have children, it is very common to have crayon stains on your vinyl flooring. What you can do to solve this problem is to use mineral spirits or turpentine and rub it directly on the stain. For lipstick stains, you can use normal rubbing alcohol, the same solution can be applied if you have ink stains on your vinyl flooring. If the rubbing alcohol doesn’t work then you can use turpentine to help remove the stain.
